Metropolitan areas are defined by the Office of Management and Budget. The following are links to their definitions.

The Office of Management and Budget and Bureau of Census have advised POLICOM new definitions for all Metropolitan and Micropolitan Areas will be published on or before June 1, 2013. This will be a major revision based upon American Community Survey county-worker-flow data generated between 2006 and 2010. The definitions provided are the official boundaries as of January 1, 2013.
Metropolitan Statistical Areas	There are 366 Metropolitan Statistical Areas. State maps are posted.
Micropolitan Statistical Areas	There are 576 Micropolitan Statistical Areas. State maps are posted.
Combined Statistical Areas	The definitions for the 125 Combined Statistical Areas. State maps are posted.
